Hello! Thanks for stopping by.
My name is Helen. I’m 31 years old, I live in Oxfordshire and work as a research scientist.
I’ve been running on and off for many years now, and it only became a big part of my life about 2 years ago when a friend and colleague (you know who you are) persuaded me to sign up for the Reading half marathon in 2015. Since then, I’ve completed another 3 half marathons: Bath and Reading in Spring 2016, and Cheltenham in September 2016.
I’ve also struggled with anxiety and depression for most of my adult life, although I didn’t know them by name until much more recently. The last year has been particularly difficult, but now, for the first time I feel like I have the right support, motivation and determination to make permanent changes and start jogging (ha!) down the road to recovery.
Running and other fitness pursuits are an important part of how I manage my symptoms, and so this blog was born. To share my story, my ups and downs, and hopefully be another small voice in the growing chorus of folks trying to break through the societal stigma of mental health problems.
